How many Canadian players on Vancouver Canucks? There are 12 Canadian players on the Vancouver Canucks of the NHL in the 2022–2023 season.

The Vancouver-based franchise was founded in 1945. The team joined the National Hockey League in 1970 as an expansion team. It competes in the league as a member of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference.

Rick Tocchet has been mentoring the club with 33 athletes since January 2023. Patrick Allvin is the general manager, while the team lacks a leader at the moment.

The Canucks have not won a Stanley Cup to date. However, they have won the Conference Championships thrice and two Presidents Trophies.

Among the current rosters, the maximum number of players belong to Canada, followed by the United States in second. Some of the Canadian ice skaters are:

Vancouver Canucks roster includes 33 athletes from five countries. Collin Delia, Sheldon Dries, and Quinn Hughes are among them.

Among the roster for this season, seven ice skaters are on an injured reserve list. They are Micheal Ferland, Travis Dermott, Oliver Ekman Larsson, Ilya Mikheyev, J.t. Miller, Tanner Pearson, and Tucker Poolman.

The injured reserve list has the player who has an injury, that makes him unable to play at least seven days from the accident. The club might replace that player with another on its NHL roster.

Vancouver Canucks Goalie

Vancouver Canucks goalie are Collin Delia, Thatcher Demko, and Artus Silovs. They appear in 60, 35, and 31-number jerseys in the regular season. 

San Diego native Demko was listed in the NHL All-Star Game 2022. His debut in the NHL playoffs was in September 2020 in place of the injured Jacob Markstorm.

The backup didn't get any payment from the team, yet he kept his 40-number jersey. On the other hand, Toth was the emergency backup for the team on January 23, 2022, match with the St. Louis Blues at their home arena.

Elias Pettersson is chosen by the franchise as the alternate leader. He is supposed to take the responsibility of the representative as the team's leadership position is vacant.

Michigan native Sheldon Dries was acquired by the team in 2021. In July 2018, Dries debuted on the NHL team through the Colorado Avalanche. He signed a one-year entry-level contract with the team.

Vancouver Canucks Captain and Alternates

Vancouver Canucks captain Bo Horvat led the team until January 2023. The alternates are Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller, Quinn Hughes, and Oliver Ekam Larsson.

The Canucks traded Horvat to the New York Islanders on January 30, 2023. He was exchanged for Beauvillier and Raty. Entering the new team, the former captain scored his first goal for the Islanders on February 7 against the Kraken.

Bo Horvat

Bo debuted in the NHL in November 2014 against the Avalanche. He scored his first goal on November 20 against The Anaheim Ducks.

After tallying 13 goals and 16 assists, Bo was listed as an All-Star for 2017. The subsequent year, he was picked as one of the four alternative leaders.

The London native became the 14th captain of the franchise on October 9, 2019. On October 20, he scored his 100th career goal. He played nine seasons with the Canucks with 201 goals, before joining the Islanders.

Alternates

Vancouver Canucks alternate captains are Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller, Quinn Hughes, and Oliver Ekam Larsson.

Two of them are from America, and the remaining are from Sweden.

Elias Pettersson was picked by the team in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He scored his debut career goal against the Calgary Flames. To date, he has enlisted 136 NHL goals with 187 assists.

The 24-year-old athlete won the Cyclone Taylor Yrophy in 2023. It is rewarded to the most valuable player of the Canucks every year. Moreover, he received the Cyrus H. McLean Trophy in 2019 and 2023.

Jonathan Miller was first picked by the Rangers in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. After six seasons with the Rangers, Tampa Bay acquired him in the 2018 NHL Draft trade.

The following year Lightning traded him to his current club. He has scored 106 goals in favor of the Canucks to date.

American player Quintin Hughes joined the Canucks in the 2018-2019 season. After scoring his first NHL goal, Hughes became the youngest defenseman on the team to score a goal.

Last alternate, Ekman-Larsson originally joined the National Hockey League with the Arizona Coyotes. He played for the team from 2010 to 2021. On July 23, 2021, he was traded to the Canucks.

Vancouver Canucks Coach and General Manager

Vancouver Canucks coach Rick Tocchet is a retired right winger. The general manager of the club is an ice hockey executive named Patrik Allvin.

Rick Tocchet

Rick is the 21st head mentor of the Canucks. The team hired him on January 22, 2023, after firing Bruce Boudreau.

Tocchet began his NHL career as a right-wing player. The Flyers drafted him in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Until his 2002 retirement, he played 18 league seasons.

The Flyers Hall of Fame 2021 scored 440 gaols collectively, playing with the Flyers, the Penguins, Los Angeles Kings, the Bruins, the Capitals, and the Coyotes.

He previously coached the Lightning for two seasons and the Coyotes for four seasons.

Patrik Allvin

Allvin became the 12th general manager of the club on January 26, 2022. The first Swedish in the post replaced former executive Jim Benning.

In his initial playing career, Leksabd native joined his local ice hockey team to compete in Swedish Hickey League. He shortly played for the Quebec Rafales and Pensacola Ice Pilots.

Starting his management career, he joined the Canadiens in 2002 ad the European scout. Later in 2006, he worked for the Penguins for 16 years. During that period, the Penguins won three Stanley Cups.
