NHL teams without a mascot include The York Rangers. In fact, it is the only NHL team without an amulet.

Every National Hockey League clubs have its own identity, which includes a name, logo, colors, and icon. A good-luck piece can be an animal, person, or any object, that is linked to a public organization like sports teams, brand names, or schools.

These charms are supposed to bring good luck. In sports, they are even used for merchandising. Animals and birds are often used in sports to represent the teams' monikers and engage the audience's attention.

In the field, official talismans are practiced by humans wearing specific outfits or sometimes live animals. Along with providing enjoyment, they also help to raise the recognition of the clubs.

Why don't the New York Rangers have a mascot ?

New York Rangers don't have a mascot due to dignity and a sense of tradition. And true Rangers fans respect their decision.

The American professional baseball team, Chicago Cubs initiated the concept of hiring an amulet started in the late 1900s. They had a taxidermy in 1908 and employed a live animal in 1916.

In 2014, the baseball team introduced a person wearing a costume of the charm. It has been over a century since the idea of having an amulet in the sports genre. However, the Rangers have kept themselves away from following the trend.

Not every NHL team has an avatar, some of them rather focus on additional aspects of their brand identity, following the tradition. And that counts the Rangers.

Even though they don't have a good-luck piece, they have incredible players like Igor Shesterkin, Mika Zibanejad, Jacob Trouba, and others. In 2020, the team acquired center player Jonny Brodzinski.

The fact that the Rangers don't have any amulets doesn't matter for their popularity. They have a devoted following of supporters who are passionate about their achievements. The Rangers have won the silver cup four times.

Do NHL Seattle Kraken have a mascot?

Yes, Seattle Kraken has a mascot. The Kraken introduced their lucky charm Buoy in the 2022-2023 season.

It hasn't been long since the team decided on their lucky charm. Or else, they were the second club without an amulet after the Rangers. At the time of the 2021-2022 season, as they didn't have an official talisman, the franchise promoted Davy Jones, a team dog.

It took two years for Seattle to finalize their charm. They didn't want to use a Kraken, a sea monster, as the one because it doesn't have a specific appearance. Also, they want to have a distinctive charm to represent themselves.

Lamont Buford, the team's vice president shared they had many options and ideas for the charm. Yet, they wanted to choose something unique that will avoid the appearance of any other charm. Eventually, the team introduced the Buoy in October 2022.

About appearance, Buoy is a six-foot-tall blue sea troll with a removable front tooth. He wears a medal earring representing the alternate symbol of the team.

Seattle Kraken Mascot Buoy and Its Meaning

The Kraken's Charm is the first in North American professional sport to be a troll. According to the vice president, Buoy is the nephew of the Fremont Troll.

Even though they spent two years finally coming up with an official amulet, the Kraken has complete details about the meaning of almost everything about their newly introduced amulet.
