While there is no mention of any NHL teams losing money in the past year, the coronavirus pandemic severely hindered the professional Hockey scene.

Similar to any other sports and entertainment industry, fifteen NHL teams lost money and nine posted double-digit operational losses during the outbreak as the league only played 85% of its regular season games.

According to a thorough analysis by Forbes, this resulted in the franchised teams falling in value by an average of two percent, to $653 million, making it the first decline since 2001.

Similarly, the total revenue of the league summed up to $4.4 billion during the 2019-20 season, a 14 percent decrease from the earlier year and the operating income was $250 million, down 68 percent.

The succeeding 2020-21 season was even worse, with NHL missing out on almost $3.6 billion in revenue from ticket sales, primarily because of attendance restrictions.

Here are some of the teams that lost the most amount of money during the 2020-21 season due to the pandemic.
