Jared Allen NFL To Curling Journey
The former NFL defensive end Jared Allen switched from NFL to curling in 2018. Allen bid adieu to his professional football career in 2016.
Jared began his NFL journey after being selected in the fourth round by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2004 NFL Draft. He played four seasons with the Chiefs and was traded in 2008 to the Minnesota Vikings.
During his rookie season, he started in 10 games, appearing in 15, and scored nine sacks on 31 tackles. The following season, he played all 16 games, recording 55 tackles, six forced fumbles, 11 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and five passes defended.
Jared Allen career stats illustrate 136 sacks, 648 tackles, 57 pass deflections, four touchdowns, 32 forced fumbles, and 19 fumble recoveries. He achieved those stats in the NFL (National Football League) through 12 seasons from 2004 to 2016.
Allen played for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2004 to 2008, Minnesota Vikings from 2008 to 2014, Chicago Bears from 2014 to 2015, and Carolina Panthers from 2015 to 2016 throughout his NFL career.
He signed a one-day contract with the Vikings on 14 April 2016 to retire as a Minnesota Viking. He was inducted into the Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor in 2022.
Two years past his retirement, Allen took up curling with three former NFL players, hoping to compete in the Olympics one day. He formed the All-Pro Curling Team and skipped for the 2018-19 season.
During his rookie curling season, the team appeared in the 2018 Curl Mesabi Classic, the 2019 USA Men's Challenge Round, and the Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic. They went winless during that season.
The following season, Jason Smith joined the rink as a skip and has led the team with Allen as the third, Roos as the second, Bulger as the lead, and Bulluck as an alternate.
The journey to curling from the NFL started just like the famous Jared Allen mullet, with him competing in the 2019 Goldline US Open of Curling - Contender Round to the 2020 USA Men's Challenge Round during the 2019-20 season.
Furthermore, Allen played second in the 2021 United States Men's Curling Championship for Todd Birr, the 2007 US Champion.
Also, he became part of a 10-6 triumph against the Duluth Curling Club's John Shuster rink during the 2023 USA Curling Men's National Championship's Draw 1.
