Immaculate Grid NHL hockey is an ice hockey guessing game that uses a 5 x 5 grid or sometimes a 4 x 4 grid to guess players from the given franchise names.

On June 25, 2023, Spotify podcast host Ross tweeted a 5 x 5 grid challenge. Drawn as in the tic-tac-toe form, one had to guess athletes with the team that won the Stanley Cup championship.

To play the contest, there are twenty-five guesses to complete the grid based on the indications at the top and left sides. Answers consist of athletes that meet both criteria.

On June 30, the podcast host made a new 3-way 4 x 4 grid. This time, players need to attempt to guess professional hockey players that have played with all three teams and won a Stanley Cup with either of the clubs.

What Does Immaculate Grid Mean In Hockey?

Immaculate Grid in hockey means a daily ice-hockey-themed game that puts fans 'icing the puck' knowledge to the test.

In simple words, it is a competition for ice hockey fans about the game's history and knowledge of the 32 franchises and players.

While other sports trivia allows nine guesses of players, there are up to twenty-five guesses (if the grid is 5 x 5) at maximum. The quest of nine guesses is also available. And the answers must match the rows and the column for the cell.

Immaculate Grid comes from the term "immaculate inning," which means when a pitcher throws nine consecutive strikes in one inning resulting in three strikeouts.

The game can be challenging and interesting at the same time. Participators require immense knowledge and ample time to surmise the answers perfectly.

How To Play The Immaculate Grid Hockey Game ?

It's not as simple as just guessing. You need to have adequate knowledge of the history of National Hockey League franchises and their players, that can be active and inactive.

Here's how it works:

  • Every day, a new 5-by-5 or 4-by-4 grid is revealed. Across the top and the side, teams and/or accomplishments are listed.
  • A player then will click on one of the 25/ 16 boxes and enter a professional athlete that satisfies the criteria of both the top and left listing.
  • For instance, if someone clicks on the box that has Los Angeles Kings across the top and New York Rangers on the left, then he would have to enter a player that has played for both teams.
  • Wayne Gretzky, Luc Robitaille, Harry Howell, Bernie Nicholls, and Tomas Sandstrom are some acceptable players.
  • If someone clicks on a box that has team names and is Russian-born, then they will have to enter a player that satisfies the team and one that is a Russian-born athlete.
  • For example: If the team is Boston Bruins on the left side and the top criteria is a Russian Born, then Sergei Samsonov would be an acceptable answer.
  • Players have just 16 or 25 guesses ( 4-by-4 grid or 5-by-5 grid), correct or incorrect- to guess all sports in the immaculate grid.
  • A player can be guessed only once and can be either active or inactive.
