Hockey Night In Canada Panel, Hosts & Commentators 2023: Ron MacLean, Craig Simpson, and Greg Millen. Here is the Hockey Night in Canada Analysts.

The program was first broadcast on the radio as General Motors Hockey Broadcast in 1931. Then, It aired on television on 11 October 1952 as Hockey Night In Canada (HNIC). The TV show holds the Guinness World Record as the longest-running sports program.

The production of the program has been funded by the CBC since 1936. But in 2013,  Rogers Communications Inc. bought the Rights; to provide coverage of the NHL games for 12 years. 

From 2013-17, the CBC and Rogers made a sublicensing agreement to ensure HNIC remained a public broadcaster, followed by a 7-year contract to broadcast HNIC across Roger Media platforms with the CBC. 

Ron MacLean had been hosting the season since 1986 with Steve Armitage. In 2014, Rogers announced George Stroumboulopoulos to take over the program.

However, Stroumboulopoulos was removed as host in 2016 due to low ratings, and MacLean returned as the show host again. Now MacLean, together with David Amber, is hosting the Show.

David Amber is a host and a reporter currently serving Sportsnet. He is best known for the show "NHL On the Fly" on NHL Network. Caroline Cameron is a sportscaster serving as a rink-side reporter for NHL on Sportsnet.

Kevin Bieksa

Hockey Night in Canada hosts Kevin Bieska as a studio analyst since 2019. Bieksa is a former ice hockey professional who played as a defenceman. 

He spent most of his career with the Vancouver Canucks. Recently in 2022, Bieska signed a one-day contract with Vancouver to play against the Ducks and retired.

Bieska joined Hockey Night in Canada as a studio analyst in 2019.

Jennifer Botterill

Jennifer Botterill is a former women's hockey player who has played for the Canadian national team. Hockey Night in Canada hosts Jennifer in the studio to provide analysis on pre-game, intermission, and post-game.

Botterill is also in TNT in the U.S. as a color commentator and studio analyst.

Craig Simpson

The former Ice hockey winger, Simpson played for Pittsburgh Penguins, Edmonton Oilers, and Buffalo Sabres in NHL before his retirement. 

After retiring in 1996, Simpson began his broadcasting career as a color commentator on Fox Television. He joined CTV Sportsnet as a color commentator for the Oilers later.

Simpson resigned from the club to enter CBC Television alongside legendary announcer Jim Hughson. They led the HNIC broadcast team.

When Rogers Media gained the rights to broadcast NHL, the pair shifted to Sportsnet. Simpson is currently partnered with Chris Cuthbert after Hughson's retirement.

Greg Millen

Gregory H. Millen, also known as Greg, is a goaltender who played for Pittsburgh Penguins, the Whalers, STL, the Nordiques, Chicago Blackhawks, and the Detroit Red Wings.

After playing 14 seasons for six teams in NHL, he retired as a goalie to become a color commentator on HNIC.

John Garrett

John Murdoch Garrett has played for World Hockey Association teams, which collapsed in 1979. Garrett entered National Hockey League in 1979 and played for Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nordiques, and Vancouver Canucks.

After retiring as a hockey player, he turned to broadcasting in the 1986-87 season. He covered the games as a color commentator on CBC's HNIC and eventually became a valuable member of the broadcasting team.

Cassie Campbell-Pascall

Cassie Dawin Campbell-Pascall began her journey in 1990 as a hockey player. She played for Calgary Oval X-Treme, Toronto Aeros, and Mississauga Chiefs.

Cassie has played hockey to represent Canada. She led the Canadian women's ice hockey team as a captain during the 2006 Winter Olympics and achieved a gold medal.

She immediately joined the field of broadcasting after her retirement in 2006. She was a rinkside reporter for HNIC and became the first woman to do color commentary on HNIC.

Cuthbert is a Canadian sportscaster, the lead play-by-play commentator for NHL on Sportsnet and HNIC.

He joined the CBC network in 1984 and used to host the regional games for Hockey Night in Canada. When an announcer, Don Wittman, was busy covering other events for the network, Cuthbert got a chance to do a play-by-play commentator. 

While being a secondary announcer behind Don Wittman, he eventually became the lead play-by-play voice. 

Rick Ball

Rick Ball is announcing Sportsnet's regional broadcasts and Hockey Night in Canada.

Before getting on television, he was a radio broadcaster since 1993. In 2008, Ball supported the lead Canucks announcer John Shorthouse, and in 2011, he was chosen to call Winnipeg games for HNIC. 

Eventually, he became the Western play-by-play voice for HNIC.

Harnarayan Singh

Singh is a sports announcer and journalist. He delivered the coverage of the game in Punjabi-language for Sportsnet and Hockey Night in Canada since 2008.

He has recently added his job as a play-by-play announcer in English for HNIC.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) had fixed broadcast teams before Sportsnet acquired the national rights to broadcast NHL games. There aren't any dedicated broadcast teams now. 

Some of the original casters have blended in with Sportsnet's broadcast team, while the entire crew switches each week; for the coverage.
