The Florida Panthers AHL affiliate teams for the 2023 season are Charlotte Checkers. Players from the junior team can be called up to an NHL roster.

Beginning their inaugural season in 1993-94, the Florida Panthers weren't primarily connected with any junior teams until 1995, when they partnered with Carolina Monarchs.

In 2020, Panthers announced that the franchise signed a multi-year affiliation agreement with the Charlotte Checkers. They will also be with the Panthers heading into the 2023-24 season.

The Checkers are members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference in the American Hockey League based in Charlotte, North Carolina. 

The Panther's connection with the Checkers also marked the second time in franchise history it partnered with an AHL team located in North Carolina (Carolina Monarch).

Before their partnership with the Checkers, the Panthers were in hand with the New York-based Syracuse Crunch of the North Division in the Eastern Conference in AHL.

Their partnership lasted one year (2020-21), and Crunch is now with another Florida-based NHL team Tampa Bay Lightning. 

Before that, the Panthers had ties with the Springfield Thunderbirds beginning from the 2016-17 season, their first year in the AHL. The franchises parted ways in 2020 after four years of partnership.

However, it is essential to note that the Panthers were also associated with the same team who went by the name Portland Pirates in 2015-16. In the 2016-17 season, the team relocated to Springfield, Massachusetts, and became Springfield Thunderbirds. 

The Springfield-based AHL team is currently the affiliate of St. Loius Blues following a five-year agreement until the 2024-25 season.

Similarly, the Panthers partnered with Texas-based San Antonio Rampage from the 2011-12 season to 2014-15. In 2020, the franchise was sold to Vegas Golden Knights and relocated to Henderson, Nevada by Henderson Silver Knights.

Before the Rampage, the Florida-based NHL franchise was also linked to other teams in the AHL, such as Rochester Americans, Louisville Panthers, Kentucky Thoroughblades, and New Haven Beast.

The current Charlotte Checkers NHL Affiliates is Florida Panthers. They were recently connected with the Florida team from 2021-22 season.

Charlotte Checkers was with the NHL team Seattle Kraken during the 2021-22 season, their first time in the NHL. 

The Kraken is a professional ice hockey team that competes in the NHL as a member of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference. 

Founded recently in 2021, the team plays its regular home game at Climate Pledge Arena. 

The Krakens are the first professional hockey team in Seattle since the Seattle Totems of Western Hockey League in 1975.

Similarly, they are the first Seattle team to compete in the Stanley Cup since Seattle Metropolitans, who won the Cup in 1917 and terminated in 1924.

Carolina Hurricanes is a Raleigh, North Carolina -based professional ice hockey team that competes in the NHL as a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference.

The franchise was created in 1971 as the New England Whalers of the World Hockey Association. The Whalers quickly rose to prominence, winning the Eastern Division in the WHA's first three seasons.

The team joined the NHL in 1979 as part of the NHL-WHA merger, renaming themselves the Hartford Whalers. The team relocated to North Carolina in 1997, rebranding themselves as the Hurricanes.

Winning the Stanley Cup over Edmonton Oilers in 2006, the club gave the state its first major professional sports championship and its only major championship title.

Charlotte Checkers Roster includes 25 players with AHL contracts as well as others with two-way NHL contracts. 

Leading the team since 2021 is the Panthers and Charlotte center Zac Dalpe. He was drafted 45th overall by Carolina Hunters in 2008 and has mostly spent his career in the AHL.

Charlotte Checkers Schedule 2023

Checkers schedule for the 2023-24 season has not been officially announced yet. It is expected to be out in July 2023.

The Checkers last played an official match on Thursday, May 4. It was a Game 4 of the Atlantic Division semifinals against the Hershey Bears, ending in a 6-2 defeat.
