Fantasy Hockey Injured Players 2023-24 are Roope Hintz, Logan Couture, Brandon Montour, Jared Spurgeon, and Andrei Vasilevskiy.

These are some of the finest players currently in the league. However, they are about to miss the early fixtures of their teams due to the injuries.

Most of the injured players are forwards. It is reasonable since forwards are considered the fighters of the ice. The players also have high-impact accidental contact with each other that results in injuries.

Rigid boards, skate blades, hockey sticks, goal posts, pucks moving at high speeds and other factors of the game also cause injuries. Additionally, fights are also common at hockey games which definitely can make a player injured.

While each and every point matters in Fantasy Hockey, it is not viable to carry these injured players and team selections should be made wisely.

Roope Hintz

Hintz had an average draft position (ADP) of 52 starting the new fantasy season. He was drafted in the sixth round, which is a significant improvement as he was selected in the 8th or 9th round last year.

Despite his productive career, Roope is one of the underrated players. He stood as the 21st overall for forwards in fantasy points last season.

The Dallas Stars forward didn't attend the practice session in September followed by an upper-body injury. Rumors suggest that Hintz will be unable to play in the season-opening game against the St. Louis Blues.

He is still missing team practice sessions due to his injury. However, he has been skating on his own and should be playing for the team soon.

Since no updates have been released about Hintz returning to the game, he will possibly miss some of the early NHL regular season games.

The Finnish player had a fantastic season in 2022-23 registering 37 goals and 38 assists appearing in 73 games. In the playoffs, he made an impressive record of 10 goals and 14 assists.

For the first 20 games of his season, he managed above a point per game. On 29 November 2022, Hintz signed an 8-year contract extension for $67.6 million with the Stars.

Logan Couture

Logan Couture has an average draft position of 190 in most of the drafts. The captain of the San Jose Sharks is suffering a lower-body injury.

The centerman will be reportedly missing the Sharks' season-opening match versus the Vegas Golden Knights. It is the first time that Logan is about to miss the first game of the team, having appeared in every season-opening game of the Sharks since 2010.

Moreover, no official statement has been made regarding his return. However, he is expected to get back to the ice rink within a short time.

He has been recovering from an undisclosed lower-body injury and missed the Sharks training camp that began on September 21. Following the improvements in his health, Couture has been doing some light skating individually.

Debuting in October 2009, he played his first full season with San Jose in 2010-11. His 32 goals and 56 points stood as the 2nd among rookies.

During the 2018-19 playoffs, he led the league in goals (14). Previously in the playoffs of the 2015-16 season, Couture led the league in assists (20) and points (30).

Brandon Montour

Montour currently stands with an ADP of 87 in fantasy hockey. He suffered a torn labrum in July 2023 and is still recovering from the injury.

There is no specific timeline for his return to the games. According to the Panthers GM Bill Zito, the athlete will be back in the games between November and January.

Zito also added that Montour would return earlier than Aaron Ekblad who is also recovering from surgery and injuries that occurred during the Panthers' run to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Montour suffered from injuries during earlier games too, but it was probably the worst of all time. He was supposed to be recovered within four to six months.

He concluded the last season with his career-best 16 goals and 57 assists for 73 points. Moreover, he had a fantastic record in the playoffs with 8 goals and 5 assists.

Montour was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in 2014. He played three seasons with the Ducks before being traded to the Buffalo Sabres before the 2018-19 season.

The player has been a member of the Panthers franchise since April 2021. He signed a 3-year contract extension with the Panthers in July.

Jared Spurgeon

Minnesota Wild will be playing their season-beginning fixture against the Florida Panthers without their team captain Jared Spurgeon.

The blueliner of the Wild got an upper-body injury in the Wild’s fifth preseason game against the Chicago Blackhawks. The accident happened when Spurgeon received a check from the Blackhawks forward Reese Johnson.

Thankfully, Spurgeon's injury is minor, and is placed on short-term injured reserve and will not be out of the lineup for 10 games, or 24 days. Most probably, he will return to the Wild games later this month or early November.

Spurgeon completed the 2022-23 regular season amassing 11 goals and 23 assists. In September 2019, he signed a 7-year contract extension with the Wild for $53.025 million

Drafted by the New York Rangers in 2008, Jared signed with the Wild in September 2010 without making any contracts with the NY Rangers.

Goaltenders

The following goaltenders are on the "NHL fantasy injured players" list right before the beginning of the 2023-24 season:

Andrei Vasilevskiy

Tampa Bay Lightning will begin their 2023-24 regular season without their star goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy. He is undergoing a back surgery.

Vasilevskiy received surgery in late September and is on the way to recovering. He went through a microdiscectomy to deal with a lumbar disk herniation.

The goalie will be sidelined for the first two months of the 2023-24 season following his injuries. He will miss more than a quarter of the regular season games.

Vasilevskiy is the best goalie for a fantasy hockey stash. With no debate, he has been Tampa Bay's greatest strength since the 2016-17 season.

Following his absence from the games, the netminding responsibility will go to Jonas Johansson and Matt Tomkins. Johansson has played 35 games in the NHL, while Tomkins will be just debuting in the league.

Though these goalies are skilled, the Tampa Bay Lightning still has a reason to worry as these goaltenders are not as professional as Vasilevskiy.

Appearing in 60 regular season games in 2022-23, Vasilevskiy registered wins in 34 games and losses in 22. Moreover, he lost 4 games in OT.

Andrei led the goalies in wins consecutively from the 2017-18 season through 2021-22. He became Stanley Cup champion with the Lightning back-to-back in 2020 and 2021.

Vasilevskiy was awarded the Vezina Trophy in 2019 as the best goaltender of the season. He also clinched the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2021.

Pavel Francouz

The Avalanche backup goalie Pavel Francouz has been placed on long-term injured reserve. Francouz will be sidelined for at least 10 games and 24 days following his placement on LTIR.

The injured reserve provided room to recall the forward Riley Tufte and goalie Justus Annunen. Furthermore, the Avalanche recently claimed off Ivan Prosvetov waivers from the Arizona Coyotes.

Alexandar Georgiev will be the starter goalie for the Colorado Avalanche matches. Annunen and Prosvetov will remain as the backup goalies.

Francouz is expected to play in some games this season as well. He appeared in 16 games for the Avalanche in the 2022-23 season and won 8.

He had an even better record in the previous season where he had victory in 15 games out of 21 total played. The goalie won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche franchise in 2022.

He signed with the Avalanche on 2 May 2018 and was assigned to the franchise's AHL farm team Colorado Eagles after his first training camp.
