Detroit Red Wings training camp 2023 will run from September 21 - 25. It will take place at the Centre ICE Arena in Traverse City, Michigan.
The Red Wings will open their annual training camp with the 2023 Training Camp Golf Classic on Wednesday, September 20. Proceeds from this event will benefit Involved Citizens Enterprises, a non-profit organization providing affordable skating programs to Northern Michigan.
During the training sessions, players, prospects, and tryouts will be divided into teams that will practice and scrimmage throughout the camp.
The Red Wings training camp schedule includes the annual Red and White Game on Sunday, September 24. Following this game, the team will remain in Traverse City and hold practice on Monday, September 25 prior to breaking camp for Detroit to begin its preseason schedule.
Before the training camp officially begins, Traverse City will host the NHL Prospect Tournament for its 24th season, running from Sep 14 to 17.
The Red Wings will host the prospects from the Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, and Toronto Maple Leafs for a multi-game round-robin.

Derek Lalonde - Head Coach
Lalonde was appointed as the head coach of the Red Wings on June 30, 2022. Derek possesses an extensive coaching background.
His journey commenced in 1995 as a graduate assistant at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Subsequently, he took on roles as an assistant coach at various collegiate teams before transitioning to USHL, where he held the head coach role for the Green Bay Gamblers from 2011-14.
Afterward, Lalonde assumed the role of head coach for the Toledo Walleye in the ECHL and the Iowa Wild in the American Hockey League.
In 2018, he joined Tampa Bay as an assistant coach, making significant contributions to the Lightning's Stanley Cup triumphs in 2020 and 2021.
Bob Boughner - Assistant Coach
Bob Boughner is currently one of the Red Wings coaches. His coaching journey is distinguished by significant achievements and successes.
As the head coach of the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League, Boughner led the team to Memorial Cup Canadian major junior national championships in 2009 and 2010. He also won the CHL's Brian Kilrea Coach of the Year Award twice, in 2008 and 2009.
Prior to his tenure with the Red Wings, Boughner held the position of assistant coach with the San Jose Sharks. Moreover, Bob also assumed the role of head coach for the Florida Panthers in 2017.
Jay Varady - Assistant Coach
Jay Varady has a long and successful history in coaching. He began in 2002 with the Pittsburgh Forge of the North American Hockey League.
He then served as an assistant and associate head coach with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League. Varady has also coached the Sioux City Musketeers in the USHL, the Kingston Frontenacs in the OHL, and the Tucson Roadrunners in the AHL.
During his tenure with the Roadrunners, Varady compiled a 93-84-11-6 record and led the team to its first-ever Pacific Division title in 2019-20.
After impressing by successful stints with the different farm teams, Varady joined the Detroit NHL franchise in an assistant coach role in 2022.
Alex Tanguay - Assistant Coach
Tanguay was named the assistant coach of the Red Wings on June 30, 2021. The veteran left-winger has played over 1000 games in the NHL.
After bidding adieu to his professional playing career following the 2015-16 season, Alex worked as an in-studio analyst for NHL Network.
He then ventured into a coaching career with the Iowa Wild. He spent two years as an assistant coach with the Wild, where the team combined for a 54-31-8-4 record.
