Red Wings Radio Station List

The Detroit Red Wings radio broadcast can be heard on Detroit sister stations WXYT-AM 1270 and WXYT-FM 97.1.

When you're traveling in the car and don't want to miss the games, hearing it on the radio is a very convenient option. Also, when the games are not available on TVs due to blackout restrictions, radio can fill the gap.

Going back to history, the very first game of the Red Wings franchise was called on WWJ radio by Foster Hewitt during the 1926-27 season.

The Wings games started being broadcast regularly from the 1935-36 season. The franchise actually boasts a very rich history in various ways.

In 1988, WXYT radio acquired the broadcast rights to Red Wings from its rival station WJR. Then, the radio rebranded itself as "Team 1270".

Again, the radio was rebranded in 2002 as "AM 1270 The Sports Station". The radio raised its power from 5,000 watts to 50,000 watts by 2002.

WXYT renewed its flagship broadcast contract with the Red Wings in 2007. The Wings franchise games were aired simulcast in the 2007-08 season. The broadcast contract was extended in July 2010.

WXYT (1270 AM) is licensed to Detroit, Michigan. The Radio studios are located in Southfield. WXYT is also licensed for HD Radio broadcasting in addition to a standard analog transmission.

In October 2007, WXYT started a simulcast with WKRK FM (now WXYT - FM). The radios were broadcast under the name "Detroit's Sports Powerhouse: 97.1 FM & 1270 AM."
