College Hockey Preseason Rankings 2023-24 are 1. Quinnipiac University 2. Minnesota University 3. University of Michigan and more.

The Bobcats became the National Champion for the very first time in the 2022-23 season. The season was undoubtedly the most spectacular in Quinnipiac University's hockey program.

However, the Denver Pioneers men's ice hockey team, the champion of the NCAA 2022 couldn't make their journey to the Frozen Four this year.

The college ice hockey rankings for the 2023-24 season are presented here in the table:

Quinnipiac University

Quinnipiac University Bobcats hockey team won the 2023 National Championship. As such, the Bobcats top the D1 college hockey rankings.

The match went on overtime and the Bobcats defeated Minnesota University 3-2 in the 2023 NCAA Division I championship. The title contest was held at Amalie Arena.

Minnesota led the game scoring the first goal in the first period at 5:35 play. Jaxon Nelson added another goal for Minnesota to make it 2-0.

Cristophe Tellier scored the first goal to get Quinnipiac on the board in the second regular period. The game was tied when Collin Graf notched another goal with just 2:47 left.

Quinnipiac's national championship crown was confirmed when Jacob Quillan bagged the winning goal in overtime. It took only 10 seconds for Quillan to score the decisive goal in overtime.

The Bobcats earned 11 selections on the 2022-23 AHCA All-American Scholars list including Jake Johnson, Alex Power, and Noah Altman.

Minnesota University

Minnesota Golden Gophers saw the NCAA National Championship slip through their hands in their bitter 3-2 overtime loss to the Bobcats.

The Gophers were leading the match 2-1 till the third period and expecting to clinch the title. But the story had to be written differently.

Minnesota's journey to the crown was stopped when the opponent Quinnipiac slid the puck into their net at just 10 seconds of overtime play.

"The worst feeling in the world," Brock Faber, the Gophers captain and Minnesota Wild defensive prospect told the media after he exited the ice becoming emotional.

University of Michigan

The University of Michigan ranks third in the mens college hockey rankings. The Michigan Wolverines secured a spot in the 2023 Frozen Four.

The second-ranked Wolverines dominated 19th-ranked Colgate en route to an 11-1 win on March 24 in the NCAA Midwest Regional Semifinal.

The 11 goals bagged by the Wolverines became the most goals in an NCAA tournament game since 1961. It recorded as the most goals ever in a Regional game.

However, the Wolverines failed to advance to the finals as they lost 5-2 to Quinnipiac University, who would ultimately go on to win the title.

Many of the Wolverines are drafted in the NHL.

Boston University

Boston University Terriers lost to the Golden Gophers in the 2023 Frozen Four. The Terriers have won 5 national championships since 1918.

Boston University has taken 12 major conference tournament championships. It has also claimed 31 titles in the historic Beanpot tournament featuring the four major Boston collegiate hockey teams.

BU Men's Ice Hockey program is the single eastern team to win back-to-back NCAA titles winning a total of five times. They saw their first national championship title in 1971 and again in 1972.

Terriers have advanced to the Frozen Four 22 times, becoming the runners-up in 5 seasons. They became the national champion last in 2009.

St. Cloud State University

No. 6 seeded St. Cloud State Men's Hockey lost to No. 1 Minnesota Men's Hockey, 4-1 in the 2023 NCAA Fargo Regional Championship game.

The Huskies tied the score at 1-1 in the second, but Minnesota answered with a goal just a few minutes later. The opponent added two more goals in the third for the 4-1 result.

Adam Ingram scored a power-play goal in the second period, which was his third and eighth goal overall in the season. Senior forward Grant Cruikshank and Freshman defenseman Cooper Wylie created assists in the game.

Three Huskies, Veeti Miettinen, Jack Peart, and Jaxon Castor were named to the NCAA Fargo Regional All-Tournament team for their efforts.

Denver University

Denver University Men's Hockey program is the Denver Pioneers. The Pioneers are 9-time NCAA National Champions winning it last in 2022.

About 75 Pioneers have been selected to play in the National Hockey League including Keith Magnuson, Matt Carle, Kevin Dineen, and others.

Their journey to the 2023 championship was stopped when they lost 2-0 against team Cornell University. Cornell recorded two goals in the first period and took the lead and held onto it for the remainder of the contest, whereas Denver finished the match without any scores.

Magnus Chrona, Denver's senior goaltender saved 25 shots and stopped all 19 he faced in the last 40 minutes. He even saved a penalty shot early in the third period.

Ohio State University

The Buckeyes were one of the founding members of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) in 1971. Next year, they won CCHA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament.

During the 2023 NCAA regional semifinals, the Buckeyes defeated Harvard, 8-1. However, the Ohio State team couldn't make it to the Frozen Four after losing to the Bobcats.

During the battle with the Crimson in Bridgeport, Connecticut, The Buckeyes bagged two goals apiece from Cam Thiesing. Jack Wise alone scored four points on four assists. The rest of the goals were contributed by Gustaf Westlund, Joe Dunlap, Patrick Guzzo, and Mason Lohrei.

Pennsylvania State University

Pennsylvania State University men's hockey program is also known as Penn State Nittany Lions. They were formerly named the Penn State Icers.

The team first competed at the NCAA Division I level during the 2012-13 season. Casey Bailey is the first Penn State player to play in the NHL, who debuted with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Nittany Lions claimed their first Big Ten Tournament championship in 2017 defeating Wisconsin University. During the NCAA Division I 2022-23 season, the Lions won all of their first 9 games and were placed at the top of the US college hockey rankings

In the team's history, it advanced to the Regional Final for the second time. However, their further journey in the tournament stopped after losing against Michigan University.

Cornell University

The Cornell Big Red played its first organized games during the early 20th century. Cornell University played its first NCAA tournament in 1967.

The Big Reds won the first NCAA Tournament championship title in the same year and a regular season championship in the following year.

Cornell University men's ice hockey team has advanced to the Frozen Four a total of eight times, reaching the last time in 2003.

During the 2023 NCAA tournament, Cornell lost to the Harvard University hockey team. The regular periods were completed without any score records and the match was advanced to overtime play. The Crimson's Alex Laferriere hit the net at 4:28 overtime.

Harvard University

The Harvard Crimson men's ice hockey team played its first games during the 1897-98 season, despite being one of the oldest teams in the US.

Harvard University team won its only NCAA championship in 1989. They have advanced to the Frozen Four several times, making it last in 2017.

The team claimed its eleventh Conference Tournament championship in 2022. In the first round of the 2022-23 tournament, the Crimsons lost 8-1 to Ohio State University.

The Buckeyes were in complete control at both ends of the ice and The Crimson had no answers for them. Harvard seemed helpless after Ohio State led by two at the end of the first period.

The game became out of reach to the Crimsons as the Buckeyes tacked on 5 goals in the second period and ended their hopes of Frozen Four.
