Cale Makar awards are James Norris Memorial Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy, and Calder Memorial Trophy. Makar also won the 2022 Stanley Cup.

The talented Canadian ice hockey defenceman was selected by the Colorado Avalanche as the fourth overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Makar played two seasons of college hockey with UMass Minutemen before making his National Hockey League debut in the 2019-20 season.

The 5 feet 11 inches athlete announced his arrival in a superb way winning the Calder Memorial Trophy, an accolade for the rookie of the year.

On the back of phenomenal performances for the Avalanche, Cale later won the James Norris Memorial Trophy in the 2021-22 season. He also became the first defenceman from the franchise to achieve this accomplishment.

Makar registered 8 goals and 21 assists along with his defensive contributions during the 2022 Playoffs en route to clinching Stanley Cup with the Avalanche. This phenomenal run of form didn't go unnoticed as he also won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player.

Cale Makar Makes The NHL Cover 2024

Cale Makar was recently announced as the cover athlete of NHL 24. EA Sports made the announcement via social media on August 14, 2023.

The full reveal will take place a couple of days later on Aug 16, Wednesday. Likewise, the video game is expected to release on 13 October 2023.

While the likes of Linus Ullmark, Connor McDavid, and Jack Hughes were seen as probable candidates, Makar has acquired a surprise accolade.

The extremely delighted Cale also shared the news via Twitter and thanked EA Sports for the honor. He is the first Avalanche player to make the cover of the game since Peter Forsberg in 1998.

Furthermore, Makar is only the 5th defenseman after Scott Stevens, Chris Pronger, Dion Phaneuf, and P.K. Subban to feature as the cover athlete.

Although the dates regarding the official release are yet to be announced, EA Sports is most likely to continue the trend of releasing the game on the second Friday of October.

The highly anticipated NHL 24 game developed by EA Vancouver will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Cale Makar Contract Breakdown

Cale Makar salary for the 2023-24 NHL season is $11,000,000 while carrying a cap hit of nine million. The current capt hit percentage is 11.04.

Makar initially signed an entry-level contract of $8.56 million with the Avalanche on 14 April 2019. He received $277,500 as the signing bonus.

The defenseman earned an average annual salary of $2,854,166 for the first three seasons. Cale received a performance bonus worth $920,000 in the 2018/19 season factoring in the number of games played and winning the Conn Smythe Trophy.

After impressing in his debut season, he became a regular on the team and earned a performance bonus of $2.5 million for the next two seasons.

Cale then signed a six-year contract worth $54 million with the Colorado Avalanche on July 24, 2021. His annual average salary is $9 million.

Makar will be an unrestricted free agent (UFA) at the end of the 2026-27 season. He will be 28 years old by then, and only time will tell whether he will sign a contract extension with the Avalanche or seek his future somewhere else.

Cale Makar parents are Gary Makar and Laura MacGregor. Born on 30 October 1998, he was named after former hockey player Cale Hulse.

Makar grew up in an athletic environment alongside his younger brother Taylor, who currently plays at UMass-Amherst. Taylor was drafted by the Avalanche in the 7th round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.

It might only be a matter of time before we see the Makar brothers playing together on the biggest stage in the NHL. Moreover, Cale also won gold with Team Canada at the 2018 World Junior Championships.
