Avicii Arena has an Olympic-size ice surface of 200ft x 98ft. The Ice surface of Avicii is 13 ft wider than a typical NHL rink size of 197ft x 85ft.

The NHL hasn't defined a specific size of the rinks for the Global Series events. The NHL franchises travel to international arenas for these events that either follow an Olympic or international standard.

In most cases, the NHL teams have skated in a rink of size 60m x 30m during the Global Series events. Skating at a larger rink can be a bit uncomfortable for the NHL players at the arena.

This is not the first NHL Global Series event at Avicii. Previously in November 2019, the arena hosted two regular-season games between the Buffalo Sabres and Tampa Bay Lightning as a part of the NHL Global Series event.

Moreover, the first Global Series took place at the same venue in March 2017. Back then, the arena was known as the Ericsson Globe. The Colorado Avalanche and Ottawa Senators competed in the first Global Series.

NHL Global Series Rink Size

The rink size for the NHL Global series has been roughly 200ft × 98ft for most of the time. While at the international arenas, the rink size differs from the standard NHL size.

A standard European ice hockey rink is 60m x 30m or 197ft x 98.5ft. European rinks are slightly shorter in length than the NHL rinks, however, they are considerably wider in breadth than the NHL rinks (85 ft).

The standard rink size is also the same in the Australian ice hockey arenas as well. However, some of the professional rinks are smaller in size 55m x 25m.

In 2018, Scandinavium Arena in Gothenburg, Sweden hosted the Global Series events. It features an ice rink of 200ft × 98.5ft, which is standard international size.

The Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils faced off against each other in Sweden that year.

Another event for 2018 took place at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland. Two regular season games between the Florida Panthers vs the Winnipeg Jets and the Winnipeg Jets vs the Florida Panthers were played in Helsinki.

Hartwell has a rink of 60m x 30m (197ft x 98 ft). The elliptical arena is now renamed Helsinki Halli.

The 2019 and 2022 NHL Global Series were conducted at O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic. O2 also comprises an ice rink of international standard.

Nokia Arena in Finland also hosted the part of 2022 Global Series. Two games between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Colorado Avalanche were played. The arena features a 60m x 28 m (200ft x 92ft) ice rink.

Avicii Arena Rink Size

Avicii Arena features a rink of 200ft x 98ft (60m x 30m). The Olympic-sized ice surface is significantly wider than the standard NHL ice rinks.

The indoor arena represents the Sun in the Sweden Solar System.

The NHL franchises play at regular 197ft x 85ft rinks. With a difference in the size of the rinks, the players surely feel a difference in gameplay at international arenas.
